Austin, the capital of Texas, is situated in the center of the state and has become known for its hip, trendy and high-tech culture. The live music scene has thrived for years, giving birth to the self-titled claim of "Live Music Capital of the World," as well as the long-running show, "Austin City Limits."
Austin is home to the University of Texas and its nearly 50,000 students, which make it one of the country's largest public universities.
The city itself is the 16th largest in the country and boasts 300 days of sunshine a year — it's no wonder that Town Lake, which bisects the city and includes 10 miles of trails, is so popular. Austin is one of only a few U.S. cities with a professional ballet, symphony, opera and theater companies.
